Adam and Eve: Perfection vs. Sinlessness

i've noticed that jws have held the opinion, officially, that adam was perfect.

now, i would assume the definition of perfection would be the state in which one does all things correctly, one who lives a live without mistake, which is different from sinlessness in which one does not offend god.

Interesting; I've always felt that by Adam being called perfect (which I think some non-JW denominations may have stated, too, from time to time), I think they were referring to being without sin oringinally. I think the idea of him being without sin is that the only thing mentioned at that point that Adam wasn't supposed to do was eat of the fruit of the tree of life. Until he did that, at least from my undestanding, he was without sin. But IMO he wasn't perfect in the sense of absolute perfection because he was imperfect enough to make the mistake of eating the fruit.

...Since many men will not do this, many are thus slaves to the Bible and slaves to what they believe. Men are also prone to badness and taking the 'easy, physically comfortable way out' and these very tendencies are the reason why so many are misled and cannot discern the truth from the lie in the Bible. Men like to be 'told' what to believe; they do not like to do the work themselves. Men do not like to search for answers and 'test' the things they are told, because their flesh doesn't want to. It finds it a cumbersome and grueling process and it rathers to be told the answer or use leverage and get other people to do the work for it. And in doing so, it has brought itself and others into error and confusion.

I would agree the above applies to some people, but IMO not automatically the majority, i.e. many came out of the WT based on testing things; many of those same people seem to have started testing things as soon as they noticed there was a need for doing so or even a source of information that was trustworthy and that could be used to test what they were hearing for the years they were in -- at least from my perspective as a non-JW (married to a DF'd JW) that's read a lot of posts on this site.

Do "born-again christians"believe that the Pope went to heaven or hell?

i ask this question because i know alot of "born-agains"that do not like roman catholics and feel that they worship mary and will not make it to heaven.

my friend that is a devout catholic has told me many horror stories of christians sending pamphlets to catholic churches telling them that they will burn in hell.

i was igronant of the anti-catholic hatred that is taught in many born-again christian churches.

Along with Country Girl's replies, I'd say that it's not any other person's place to "judge" the status of the pope's eternal existence. I believe it's based on a personal relationship with God, the Father, through acceptance of the sacrifice of His Son. There are many denominations, and many differences are based, IMO, on doctrines that vary mainly in areas that don't affect salvation, though that doesn't equate to me saying those doctrinal differences aren't important.

As an example, I don't personally feel that a person believing purgatory is a real place would affect whether they are/can be born again or not. Worshipping Mary or various saints would be a problem, I feel sure, but I don't know that they actually are worshipped or just heavily honored (though more than they should be, IMO). Also, if I undestand correctly that Catholics teach praying "through" or in the name of certain saints or Mary, that seems to be highly against only praying in Jesus' name; even so, I'm not sure this would necessarily affect salvation as long as the person accepted Jesus as his/her Lord and understand that salvation can only come through acceptance of His sacrifice and not of various saints or Mary.

Just as with the Catholics, I feel it's not my place to judge whether a JW, protestant, etc. is saved but feel it's all between the people themselves and God. That isn't to say I might not have an opinion in certain cases, such as with Hitler, for example...

What would you guys do??

i mentioned on another thread that friday night i'd gone out with some friends (one being my roommate).

and in the middle of a bar we were at she (roommate) starts screaming at the top of her lungs about how i find everything she says to be wrong and demanding an explanation.

now, to give you a little more detail--right before another friend had been talking about something (my roommate disagreed with for some reason) and then momentarily left to go smoke and as soon as she left my roommate starts going into this heated bitch about the friend that went to smoke.

I haven't read all the responses yet but am quickly just adding my own in case it may be helfpul along with the others.

To me, it just sounds like she might be a bit immature (regardless of age) and as if she may never have gone through something where she could grow in a similar situation previously, i.e. being somewhat unaware of how she acted being seen by most people as being at least somewhat rude.

I've been in some situations where I've just tried to wait for a somewhat calm moment to try and come across as just wanting to talk calmly about the situation since it was a big deal. In this one, if she were open to talking at all, I'd probably just tell her how I felt but in a way that doesn't sound like you're talking down on her, as in maybe just trying to get her to see herself in the other person's shoes she was talking about and how she'd feel if she found out someone was harping behind her back in a similar fashion. Maybe that would make her think about it and get her to try and think a little before going off like that again. If so, then she truly is a cool person but maybe just not very socially skilled. Otherwise she may just be a somewhat lame person you might have to only talk to about important matters such as paying rent and bills, as well as moving procedures when the time comes.

Hopefully things will work out really well~!

Watchtower and Awake in the waiting room

i found a couple of nice wt and awake magazines in the waiting room at work today.

i decided to dress them up with some flourescent green labels with the freeminds.org, silentlambs.org, and quotes' website.

hope the jw who left them will come back and check them out .

I like the idea of directing the potential JW to something honest~! If I really thought anyone was likely to read the mag's, such as if they were in a waiting room that people would be really bored sitting in for a long time, I might take the mag's and either "edit" them with corrections to all the errors or staple a page of corrections to each if the refutations took up too much space to write in the magazines, themselves.

Anyone have 'new light' on US vs Russia?

hi--i was wondering if anyone knew what the watchtower says about the superpowers destroying babylon the great?

i have been out for many years, and i know they used to teach that russia and the us were going to have the great war and then destroy all religions except the witnesses.

any takers?

Although I've never been a JW (married to a sweet JW who's currently DF'd), some churches I've attended back in the '80s used to say they felt that at some point the great "bear" and the "eagle" would both bring war to Israel in the last days (or at least that's what little I remember of what was said ).

Sometimes I wonder if some of the things JW's have taught in the past might possibly be rehashed versions of what some protestant denominations views have been -- just altered in such a way as to put the WT on top of the end-day heap~!

i just recently join this site because i was looking for a friendly place for witnesses to go and chat.it's ok!..but i seen a lot of witness bashing.there's another site i want to get into, that's also a site for the witnesses.but i don't know what po means.and that's the only way a true witness can get in.i think maybe there is where i want to be.because i don't need to be in a site for witnesses,where its suppose to be friendly.yet witness haters are coming in.i haven't heard any witness bashing anyone in this site..but yet its the other way around.

As a person who's never been a JW but married to a DF'd one, I can tell you her perspective seemed to be that JW's or at least the WT was getting bashed on here badly, but from my somewhat neutral perspective (at least initially neutral~), I explained that a lot of people here have been badly hurt by the actions of the WT, i.e. DF'd and unable to talk to parents, siblings, children, etc., and many are upset at how they've been misled ranging from months to 50 or more years, losing a lot of their life via compromising and not getting a better education, not interacting with other people that may've been really good friends, many being hurt by an apparent lack of love they've experienced at KH's, etc...

Anyway, to me, most of the bitterness seems directed at the organization rather than the people, though I've seen enough times where people feel current JW's are duped or even possibly stupid for not letting themselves look at material, even older WT mag's, that would dethrone the WT as being the sole "Truth."

I feel for current JW's...at least the ones going through problems and being too controlled to really do anything about it plus having to put on a fake front and seem perfect no matter what types of problems they have, i.e. mental/emotional/physical disabilities (at least with a good number of halls). To those that are truly happy with their current JW status, I don't feel the need to knock them, but I can understand refuting their points that come up periodically and have done so myself, as a Christian who doesn't hate the WT but definitely feels the WT is arrogant and seriously in error when calling themselves the truth and having their people act smugly about it when the WT being the sole servant, ect. is so easily refuted via a number of ways, via the Bible itself, the WT's own predictions/prophecies, changing policies, etc...

Anyway, peace to you and any current or ex-Jehovah's Witness; I have no problems personally with JW's at all and thought I noticed a number of seemingly cool ones at the local hall on the 3 visits I've had, though I totally felt strange about their ritualitically passing the emblems by untouched, doctrinal issues, etc...
